Cincinnati Area Family in Birth Injury Case Claims $22.6 Million Settlement

Today, 11-year-old Cassie Grow suffers from brain damage and an array of other health problems and developmental disabilities. Doctors say that the problems began as a result of complications during her 1997 delivery at an Ohio hospital. When the labor was not progressing normally, hospital staff administered a large dose of pitocin, a labor-inducing drug, to Cassie’s mother. Lawyers for the family claimed that the amount of the drug caused stress in the birth canal, which in turn caused irreversible injuries to Cassie’s brain. A jury recently awarded the Grow family $22.6 million in the case.
