The city of Hanford, California has agreed to pay $15 Million to the family of minor resident Christopher Chan. In 2005, then-14-year-old Chan was riding a bicycle on a municipal thoroughfare when he was struck by a vehicle, resulting in catastrophic brain injuries. In the subsequent lawsuit, Chan’s lawyers claimed that the intersection was a danger to students attending the nearby school, and that the city did nothing to remedy the obvious problem. The $15 million settlement will be used primarily to fund Chan’s round-the-clock medical care.
