The surviving family members of 24-year-old Emily May, who died a year ago in a fatal car crash, have filed lawsuits against several individuals and businesses they believe should be held responsible in the crash. May was a passenger in a car driven by an underage friend whose blood-alcohol content was over twice the legal limit when the accident occurred. The car struck an aluminum utility pole, which was mounted with a 500-lb. traffic camera. Upon impact, the camera was dislodged from the pole and crashed into the car, instantly killing May. Parties named in the suit include driver Danielle Polumbo, several servers at the restaurant where the two ate dinner, and city officials who approved the camera’s positioning.
