Families of Murdered Missionaries Sue Chiquita Over Payments to Terrorist Group

It’s the latest twist in a strange story that has garnered a lot of media coverage this year: executives at international produce giant Chiquita have been slapped with a wrongful death suit by the surviving family members of five American missionaries who were put to death by FARC, a Colombian terror group that the company is believed to have helped subsidize in the 1990s. However, although Chiquita officials concede that payments were made to FARC, they insist that they were coerced with threats of violence against their staff and staff’s family members. The case is scheduled to be heard later this year in a Florida court.
