Suit Filed in Illinois Woman’s Death

Retired graphic artist Marilyn Stark liked to start each morning with a stroll around her suburban neighborhood. Late last July, her daily ritual was cut tragically short when Stark was hit and killed by a school bus as she crossed a street. Stark’s life partner of nearly forty years, Ellie Welz, has filed a wrongful death claim against the Valley View School District, claiming negligence on the part of the bus driver. Stark’s family members are also plaintiffs in the suit, as state law does not formally recognize the relationship between unmarried partners.
