‘Haunted House’ Sign Contributed to Teen’s Car Crash Death, Suit Claims

Haunted houses are an autumn tradition in many rural areas, and rural McHenry County, Illinois is no exception. Local dairy farmer Vernon Stade has hosted a popular haunted house event for many years. However, according to a wrongful death lawsuit recently filed in an Illinois court, a roadside sign that he erected to advertise the event in October 2007 blocked visibility on the highway, factoring into a car crash that killed 14-year-old Judithann Yunevich. The victim’s family is asking for more than $50,000 in damages in the case, which is scheduled to go before a judge in late June 2008.
